The main task in any data migration project is to document the target system requirements (data fields, validation, dependencies etc…) and ensure that the source system (or otherwise) can deliver these data elements.
Once the identification has taken place, the Data Migration Analyst maps the data, applies dependencies, and validate it to ensure that the correct data is delivered to the target system as part of the data migration.
The task can, for the most part, be simple. But for some parts, it's not so simple, for others, quite complex, and, in the worst case, impossible. Sometimes, the sheer number of data elements needing to be mapped makes it difficult to manage—at other times, it’s the complexity.
